Adapting to Climate Change: Problems and Solutions
March 26, 2010The Georgetown Climate Center co-sponsored this event, featuring a keynote address by Maria Blair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality.

Blair discussed the Obama administration's work on adaptation and an interim progress report on the Interagency Climate Change Adaptation Task Force. Other panels included the "Human Dimensions of Climate Change," "Regulatory Frameworks for Adapting to Climate Change" and "Biodiversity/Natural Resources Management." The Georgetown International Environmental Law Review and Environmental Law Institute joined the Georgetown Climate Center in co-sponsoring the event. (Event agenda)
Sub-National Views from the U.N. Conference on Climate Change in Copenhagen
December 15, 2009The Georgetown Climate Center and the Climate Registry hosted this forum of leading sub-national actors at the U.N. Conference on Climate Change in Copenhagen.

U.S. Governors Chris Gregoire of Washington and Jim Doyle of Wisconsin joined Canadian Premiers Jean Charest of Quebec, Gordon Campbell of British Columbia and Greg Selinger of Manitoba to discuss sub-national efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, progress made in recent years, the need for national and international policy and the key role that states and provinces will play in addressing climate change.

Workshop on State-Federal Interactions

Margo Oge, EPA, at the workshop.Bringing together state, regional and federal policymakers, this event marked the first meeting of the three regional greenhouse gas reduction groups (RGGI, WCI, Midwest Accord). The workshop was co-hosted by the Georgetown Climate Center, the Pew Center on Global Climate Change, the National Association for Clean Air Agencies (NACAA), and the Pew Center on the State.
Keynote speakers included EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson and Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle.
Launch of the Georgetown Climate Center
February 23, 2009The founding event of the Georgetown Climate Center featured addresses by Govs. Kathleen Sebelius and Chris Gregoire, EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson, and CEQ Chair Nancy Sutley.

Jackson said that the center will provide not only a voice for the states but a resource for them as they cope with the day-to-day problems of climate change. And the states, Jackson predicted, will be important contributors in solving those problems.
“We’re trying to change the country’s direction fairly significantly on climate,” she said.
