The Pacific Southwest (PSW) Research Station represents the research and development branch of the U.S. Forest Service in the states of California and Hawaii and the U.S. affiliated Pacific Islands. Its mission is to develop and communicate science needed to sustain forest ecosystems and their benefits to society. The PSW Research Station plays a leadership role in climate change and greenhouse gas science at national and international levels. Research of PSW scientists focuses on assessing climates, evaluating ecosystem responses, promoting approaches to sequester carbon and reduce greenhouse-gas emissions, and developing adaptation strategies to manage natural resources in the face of changing climates. The PSW coordinates research with the western Forest Service Research Stations in the Pacific Northwest and Rocky Mountains, and with Federal, State, academic, and non-governmental partners.
