This report discusses the federal government’s importance in mitigating and adapting to the effects of climate change on the U.S. economy and domestic natural resources. Drawing on the expertise of local, state, federal, and international leaders in this area, the authors provide concrete proposals for a governance structure at the federal level for climate change adaptation, and for incorporating the consideration of climate change into federal agency government operations and planning. Additionally, the report discusses proposals for the creation of a strategic planning initiative, a national climate service, and a national adaptation research program.
