Chicago Climate Action Plan Progress Report, 2008-2009: The First Two Years
In 2009, 16 City of Chicago departments and sister agencies developed their individualized climate action work plans. These plans define distinct and attainable goals for each organization. In total, more than 450 initiatives with a direct benefit toward the goals of the Chicago Climate Action Plan were identified and are being coordinated and tracked on a quarterly basis.
In the summer of 2010, the Chicago Climate Action Plan team released this first Progress Report, detailing successes made in 2008 and 2009 to slow the causes and effects of climate change on the city and region. The Action Plan strategies included for review are energy efficient buildings, clean and renewable energy sources, improved transportation options, reduced waste and industrial pollution, and adaptation. Adaptation measures discussed include managing stormwater, decreasing urban heat, expanding the tree canopy and "urban forest", implementing green urban design, and developing an extreme weather operations plan.
