Vicki Arroyo to Give TED talk on Adaptation
Vicki Arroyo, executive director of the Georgetown Climate Center, will give an important TED talk about adapting to climate change at this week's TED Global conference in Edinburgh, Scotland. The June 27 talk will emphasize the importance of local planning and local actions to adapt to climate change as world leaders continue to seek action to mitigate climate change.
Mrs. Arroyo will be joined by other leading speakers in their fields, who will discuss a wide-array of topics. For example, Admiral James Stavridis, Supreme Commander of NATO, will discuss open source security. Hassine Labaied, CEO of Saphon Energy, will discuss wind energy, and NASA bioengineering scientist Jonathan Trent will discuss his efforts to grow algae for biofuel.
Mrs. Arroyo and some of the Georgetown staff she directs are considered leading experts on adaptation planning and adaptation policy in the United States. The Georgetown Climate Center regularly helps states and municipalities with their planning efforts, and launched the online Adaptation Clearinghouse to assist with adaptation planning and information sharing in late 2011.
