GCC was thrilled to be a sponsor of the largest climate adaptation conference in the U.S. Hosted by EcoAdapt, the 7th National Adaptation Forum drew over 900 registrants from government, non-profits, academia, community-based organizations, foundations, and more. Chief Resilience Officers as Policy Bridges: Connecting Climate Resources Across All Levels of Government

Around 90 participants joined GCC's session highlighting state Chief Resilience Officers and the crucial role they play in connecting climate efforts across state agencies and levels of government. GCC's Joshua Saks moderated the panel in which Massachusetts Climate Chief Melissa Hoffer, Director of Colorado's Resiliency Office Anne Miller, and New Jersey Chief Resilience Officer Nick Angarone discussed their experiences coordinating climate resilience efforts throughout their states and took questions from the audience. GCC's Kate Zyla also shared opening remarks, setting the stage for the panel which built on GCC's research exploring CRO positions across 12 states. 

Adaptation Information-Sharing in the Changing Federal Landscape

Thank you to everyone who participated in our workshop on Adaptation Information-Sharing in the Changing Federal Landscape! Partners from GCC, EcoAdapt, U.S. Climate Resilience Toolkit, Climate Central, and others discussed how tools like the Adaptation Clearinghouse and the Climate Adaptation Knowledge Exchange (CAKE) can help adaptation practitioners find the climate resilience resources they need to do their work protecting communities from climate impacts. GCC's Annie Bennett and Marisa Borreggine, EcoAdapt's Kathryn Braddock, and NOAA's Ned Gardiner gave overviews of their organizations' tools and set the stage for conversation on how these tools can continue to serve people working in the field.

Durable Networks for Regional Climate Adaptation: Stories of Impact

Regional collaboratives and networks are an integral tool in connecting people who work on climate action and building resilience across jurisdictions. These networks can help smaller organizations and local governments share resources and knowledge, develop consistent solutions across larger geographic areas, and together achieve more than the sum of their parts.

GCC's Annie Bennett collaborated with partners from NOAA, Farallon Strategies, Center for Climate Adaptation Science & Solutions at University of Arizona, and University of Massachusetts Amherst Extension (below) to present a poster at the National Adaptation Forum highlighting success stories of regional collaboration. These included scaling extreme heat solutions, assisting each other in securing funding and grant assistance, and accelerating project implementation. Bennett facilitates Georgetown Climate Center's long-standing Regional Collaboratives Forum – which recently celebrated its 50th meeting – in partnership with Farallon Strategies.
