GCC welcomes National Climate Advisor to Georgetown Law Campus

On Friday, February 17, Georgetown Climate Center was honored to welcome White House National Climate Advisor Ali Zaidi to the Georgetown Law Campus to present a progress report on climate action in the first two years of the Biden-Harris Administration. Speaking to an audience of students, faculty, national media, and local climate leaders, Zaidi – a Georgetown Law alum (L'15) – delivered a detailed and comprehensive overview of the Administration’s actions to address the climate crisis so far and the work that remains to “finish the job.”

After introductory remarks from Georgetown Climate Center Executive Director Kate Zyla, Zaidi detailed strategies and policies to address greenhouse gas pollution from the transportation, electric power, industrial, and agricultural sectors. Acknowledging additional aggressive cuts in carbon emissions that will be necessary to meet the nation’s climate targets, Zaidi also highlighted the importance of collaboration among federal, state, and local governments to “close the gap.”

“It was an honor to host the National Climate Advisor for such an important address,” said Zyla. “We look forward to continuing to work with the White House Climate Policy Office to build bridges between federal policymaking and the critical implementation decisions that happen at the state and local levels.”
