Statement on the US EPA's Reversal of the Endangerment Finding for Greenhouse Gases

“EPA’s reversal of the Endangerment Finding undermines decades of progress to address the existential threat of climate change,” said Kate Zyla, Georgetown Climate Center’s Executive Director. “The Agency’s reinterpretation of the Clean Air Act is inconsistent with Supreme Court precedent, and it contradicts decades of scientific consensus. 

“In particular, vehicles are the largest U.S. source of greenhouse gas emissions in the United States and we know we have real technological solutions for reducing those emissions. The rollback of these standards is a significant step backward. 

"Despite this retreat from federal leadership, the Georgetown Climate Center will continue to work with state, local, and tribal governments to advance ambitious, effective, and equitable responses to the climate crisis.”
